A short history of the Grizzlies

The Fresno Grizzlies arrived in 1998 as a Triple-A team in the Pacific Coast League, originally affiliated with the San Francisco Giants. For their first few seasons, they played at Pete Beiden Field on the Fresno State campus while a new ballpark was built downtown.

Over the years, the team's major league affiliation changed. After their long run with the Giants, the Grizzlies were affiliated with the Houston Astros and then the Washington Nationals. The high point came in 2015, when Fresno won the Pacific Coast League championship and then the Triple-A National Championship game.

In 2021, Major League Baseball reorganized the minor leagues, and the Grizzlies became an affiliate of the Colorado Rockies at the Low-A level. Their league was renamed the California League the following year and is now classified as Single-A. As of the 2026 season, the Grizzlies remain the Rockies' Single-A affiliate in the California League.

The Bulldogs compete in a wide range of NCAA Division I sports, and 2026 marks a new chapter: Fresno State officially joined the rebuilt Pac-12 Conference on July 1, 2026, after many years in the Mountain West.
