Fresno Unified today

Enrollment counts differ by source and method: Ed-Data, which republishes state figures, lists 70,163 students for 2025–26, while GV Wire reported in October 2026 that enrollment fell from about 67,000 in the late 2010s to just above 63,000 in 2024–25. Either way, enrollment is falling: a consultant's report to the district, covered by Fresnoland in July 2026, found it lost 1,044 students in 2025–26 and projects 1,199 fewer in 2026–27.

In October 2026, GV Wire reported that the district had a working list of 10 elementary schools with 400 or fewer students, 6 of them in or near downtown, and planned public talks about possible closures. No decision had been made. In December 2025, district officials also said Fresno's proposed Southeast Development Area could reduce the district's enrollment. The City Council tabled that plan in September 2026.

The district's facilities department lists building projects across the city: new classroom buildings at Figarden, Turner, Robinson (kindergarten) and Baird, plus a gym at Baird; a 3-story building at McLane; a career-tech project at Duncan; the Hoover Aquatic Center; and a modernization of Royce Hall at Fresno High.

The district's most recent bond, Measure H, a $500 million measure, passed in November 2024 with about 64% of the vote. Before that, Measure M asked voters for $325 million in March 2020; the district lists it on its bond page with earlier Measures K, Q and X.

Where it reaches

Fresno Unified serves most of the City of Fresno, plus Calwa, Mayfair, Old Fig Garden (an unincorporated area the city surrounds), most of Sunnyside and a small part of Clovis near Peach and Ashlan.

City lines are not school lines

A Fresno address does not guarantee Fresno Unified. Clovis Unified covers much of north and northeast Fresno, including Clovis West and Clovis North, which have Fresno addresses. Central Unified serves areas west of SR 99, and Washington, Sanger and Fowler Unified serve smaller parts of the city.

Why verify the address

Attendance areas can change, and with enrollment falling the district has outlined possible consolidations. Check each address in the School Locator, and see the district's School Boundaries and Neighborhood Schools pages.

Bonds and taxes

Voters approved Measure H, a $500 million bond, in November 2024. Measure M ($325 million, 2020) and the earlier Measures K, Q and X are listed on the district's bond page. Check the property tax details on any listing.

History

A district as old as the railroad town

Fresno began in 1872 as a Central Pacific Railroad station, and the school district was established the next year, in 1873. That makes the district older than Fresno's role as county seat, won in 1874, and older than the city itself, which incorporated in 1885.

Fresno High was founded in 1889, the same year the Meux Home and the brick Southern Pacific depot went up. Today it sits at 1839 N Echo Ave, where its historic Royce Hall houses drama and music. Bullard High added a track and aquatic complex in the early 2010s, and the district's most recent bond, Measure H, passed in November 2024.
